Blaenau Gwent
The smallest county in Wales, Blaenau Gwent, is situated in the south of the country, surrounded
by Powys, Torfaen, Monmouthshire and Caerphilly. Stunning contrast in sceneries is the main
feature of the region's landscape. Its southern part is crossed by deep river valleys, covered with
thick woodland, while the north offers endless moors and lawns. A number of parks and recreational
facilities are scattered in the countryside. However, Blaenau Gwent is not a typical rural area, since
there are a couple of impressive industrial sites, especially around the largest towns Ebbw Vale,
Tredegar and Abertillery. Three excellent venues offer a rich cultural programme throughout the
year, including theatre, music performances, art festivals and various other events.
