Bridgend
The county of Bridgend lies in Southern Wales, with a narrow outlet on the Bristol Channel. It offers
idyllic beaches with fantastic conditions for watersports. The Coney Beach Pleasure Park near
Porthcawl is the best known entertainment venue for the whole family. The region is rich in rivers –
the river Ogmore and its tributaries play important role in many aspects of life in Bridgend. Most
tourist attractions are concentrated within the town of Bridgend, which is the administrative,
as well as a leading cultural centre of the county. Shopping opportunities are also ample, despite
the moderate size of the town. Outside the urban zones, there are some interesting heritage sites
that are worth a visit. First among them in terms of popularity rank the Norman Coity Castle in the
outskirts of Bridgend town and the majestic remains of the Ogmore Castle near the village of
Ogmore-by-sea.
