Conwy
Conwy is a county in the northern part of Wales, located between Gwynedd to the west and south
and Denbighshire to the east. To the north Conwy borders on the Irish Sea. The landscape is
varied, with alternating low hills, valleys and wide fields. The main river in the region is Conwy River,
which crosses the area from south to north and is particularly famous for its populations of salmon
and sea trout. In its valley visitors will encounter two of the oldest still preserved churches in the
country. About one third of the Conwy county is occupied by the Snowdonia National Park, an
area that includes the majestic Snowdon Massif plus the adjoining woodland areas and numerous
lakes. It is visited by more than 6 million tourists annually, which makes it one of the most popular
tourist destinations not only in Wales, but in the whole United Kingdom. Another interesting
place is the administrative centre Conwy, which represents nothing more than a bigger village, but
boasts some precious landmarks like the Medieval castle and the fortification wall.
