Merthyr Tydfil
Merthyr Tydfil is a town and separate county in the heart of Southern Wales. It is the least populous
and second smallest administrative division in the country. The tiny county is located in a wide
valley south of the Brecon Beacons National Park, which creates fine conditions for outdoor
activities and recreation. Merthyr Tydfil is a town with long traditions – the area has been constantly
inhabited for more than 3000 years, since the Bronze Age. As one of the centres of the industrial
revolution in Britain, the town still boasts a number of noteworthy industrial heritage sites. The
old Cyfarthfa Castle and the park around it are long established venues for music and art festivals.
