Monmouthshire
Monmouthshire is situated in the south-eastern end of Wales, surrounded by the Welsh counties of
Powys, Newport and Torfaen to the west and England to the east. The region boasts a long history,
stretching as far back as 1535. Many archaeological sites and ancient castles and mansions bear
witness to that epoch. A network of historical routes tempts both nature lovers and history buffs
to take a walk. The town of Cwmbran, which accounts for more than a half of the region's population, is a modern transport and shopping centre of not only local significance. The county of Monmouthshire is the region with the smallest share of Welsh speaking population in the whole country.
