Torfaen
Torfaen is situated in the southeastern part of the country, bordering on Monmouthshire to the east,
Newport to the south and Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent to the west. Although one of the tiniest
counties in Wales, Torfaen is significantly urbanised and very densely populated. The greater part of
the population is concentrated in the South, in and around the Cwmbran New Town conurbation.
The administrative headquarters are in a relatively smaller town, named Pontypool. It is a major
educational centre in the area and is known for the recreational area Pontypool Park in its outskirts.
Another attraction, that is definitely worth a visit, is the former mining town of Blaenavon, which is
listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Shopping buffs can stop at the largest covered
shopping centre in Wales, which is to be found in Cwmbran.
