Blue sky, full sun and temperatures higher than the season averages… The last hours of 2022 were like what the whole year will have been. But the first day of 2023 was also exceptional in terms of temperatures for a month of January.
Sunday 1uh January, a hundred French cities recorded a record heat. Thus, on a recorded 16 ° C in Lille, 18 ° C in Strasbourg, 17 ° C in Toulouse and up to 25 ° C in Asson (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). But this peak of sweetness was anything but unexpected.
“It is a completely exceptional weather situation. We were expecting it since we had depressive systems in the near Atlantic. By their importance and their situation, we knew that it was going to direct south-westerly flows over Western Europe and therefore, necessarily, very mild air which would soon settle, ”explained to CNEWS meteorologist Patrick Marlière.
However, this situation arouses concern among many French people. “These are not completely normal temperatures. I prefer very cold and dry winters like what we have known before. It will only get worse from year to year, ”revealed an Ile-de-France resident interviewed by CNEWS.
Others have revealed that the mild temperatures recorded at the end of December were “proof for things to change”.
Despite a “warm” start to the year, temperatures suffered by the end of the week, giving way to rainy and snowy weather. On Sunday January 8, the rain should affect the whole territory with temperatures ranging from 7°C (Limoges) to a maximum of 16°C (in Corsica).
According to buyers of Meteo France, the week from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 January promises to be “very wet”. The snow could also “make its return in quantity in the Northern Alps”. A track that must be confirmed in the coming days.
