Beethoven Memorial
The Beethoven Memorial House (Eroica house) and its collections may be viewed every day in the months of May, June and September. Guided tours may be arranged by phone or by email. If you are coming with a car take the Floridsdorfer Bruecke and drive across the Danube, then straight forward the Floridsdorfer Hauptstrasse. From the second traffic lights take left and follow the Jedleseer Strasse for 1,5 kilometers, until it changes the direction half-right into Jeneweingasse. If you want to use the public transport you can take the subway U6 or the "Schnellbahn" to the Floridsdorf station and change to the bus number 33B, which will bring you in 5 minutes to Jeneweingasse.
Beethoven spent at Eroica House the summer of 1803. He worked on, but didn’t finish, his 3rd symphony "Eroica" which is widely acknowledged as a ground breaking work as well as one of which brought new boldness and harmony to his music. Eroica is the name given to the house where you'll find related pictures and sheet music. Many exhibits in the house remind the world of the still rural Viennese suburb. Beethoven changed his house 79 times during his 35 years in Vienna. The second very famous residence is the Pasqualati House, located at Mölkerbastei 8. It is a house that was owned by Johann von Pasqualati and served as the occasional guest residence of the composer. Having spent a number of years at Pasqualati House, he obviously found its atmosphere conducive to new ideas, as he composed not only the 4th, 5th and 6th symphonies, but the magnificent operetta "Fidelio". Nowadays, there isn't much to see here except some family portraits and the Beethoven's scores, but you might feel it's worth the visit the apartment on the fourth floor (no elevator).
