Erasmus House
The Erasmus House comprises a long line of works of art, furniture, books and archives illustrating the thought and era of Erasmus. Installed in a 16th-century house and transformed into a museum in 1932, it was classified as a historic heritage building in 1937.
The house's collections of works of art, engravings, books and archives form a unique ensemble illustrating moments of European history: the Renaissance, rule of Charles V, the humanist movement, the development of printing and the various religious conflicts. The museum houses rare publications of Erasmus's writings, as well as a collection of 15th- and 16th-century paintings. The exposition features a portrait by Hans Holbein, a sketch by Albrecht Dürer, a portrait attributed to Quinten Metsys, 'The Temptation of St Anthony' by Pieter Huys, a nativity scene painted in the tradition of Gérard David, the 'Adoration of the Magi' and a triptych by Jérôme Bosch, which is formerly kept in the Collegial of the Saints Peter and Guidon.
