Museum of Belgian Railways
The collection of the Museum of Belgian Railways showcases the history and evolution of railway technology in Belgium. This museum is set within Brussels-North train station. The site includes the locomotion Pays de Waes (Country of Waes), constructed in 1845, which is surrounded by scale models and photographs of different vehicles, marking devices, railway tracks and points, as well as coupes providing explanations on the functioning of steam traction.
The room on the upper floor is accessible only on the first Saturday of each month, and contains scale models of train stations, as well as old lithographs and pictures outlining railway life of the past and present eras. It was in Belgium that the steam train ran for the first time in Europe, in 1835.
