Jardin du Roi
The French name
Jardin du Roi literally means 'King’s Garden' and it indeed has an air of luxury and sophisticated taste to it, with the carefully kept lawns and its geometrical symmetry. There is also a number of statues that decorate the facility. The King’s Garden is said to have the shape of a goose’s foot, opening from the green roundabout of the
Louise Avenue and stretching in the direction of the
Ixelles Ponds that are a popular attraction in Brussels.
The symmetry that connects the two separate sections of the garden is a natural consequence of the Belgian tradition. Both parts of the King’s Garden that are divided by the central alley comprise a lawn lined with trees and bushes. The two perfect circles that indicate the heart of each lawn and that face each other in a straight line are the focal point of the garden’s landscape. Very accessible, and with benches here and there, the King’s Garden is a typical urban green space. Moreover, a children’s playground and a sand pit provide further comfort for the young visitors of the park, as well as for their parents.
