The Belgian American Educational Foundation
During World War I, Herbert Hoover founded the Committee for Relief in
Belgium. After the war the institution was turned into Foundation known as Belgian American Educational Foundation. Now the 86 year-old organisation helps Belgians and Americans, dealing with financial management and far-reaching fundraising of many university and research programmes.
BAEF is an organisation which is incorporated in the United States. As the non-profit institution, BAEF encourages the higher education of Belgians and Americans who can take part in exchange programmes. Since the founding of BAEF in 1920, it has provided 2,853 Belgians and 866 Americans with the great opportunity for advanced study or research in the other country.
The possibility for Belgians for study in USA includes one-year stay to study at an American institution or to do research. There is also Honorary Fellowship of the Foundation for students who would like to
pay for their studies or research programme by themselves.
The BAEF organises fellowship programs for Americans interested in researching, studying or teaching at a university in Belgium.
