The Champs-Élysées
One of the most famous avenues in the world, it’s the essence of Parisian life. Lined with expensive fashion boutiques, classy restaurants and prestigious hotels, it attracts thousands of tourists and businesspeople alike, as the area is also home to numerous head offices of international companies. The President's residence, the Palais de l'Elysèe, the Ministry of the Interior and a number of embassies are another reason why this upscale neighbourhood is so busy and diverse.
The name Champs-Élysées refers to Greek mythology, and literally means Elysian Fields, symbolising the place of the blessed. Located in the northwestern part of the city, it spreads over two kilometres through the 8th arrondissement, starting from the Place de la Concorde and running to the Place Charles de Gaulle in the west. At the end of this prestigious avenue lies the renowned Arc de Triomphe. This site has always been the scene of triumph or defeat for France. That's why it’s often called a part of the Axe historique. To this day, all state events and holidays are staged there.

As mentioned, the area around the avenue has lots of shopping options and plenty of tourists, but when you walk more to the east, between the Champs Elysee and Place de la Madeleine, you'll find a mixture of 19th-century buildings intermingled with businesses. While you’re in Paris, you simply can't miss a stroll along the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, be it by day or night.
