The
Bourse de Paris (Paris Stock Exchange), or Euronext, is the French stock exchange situated between the Palais Royal and the Grands Boulevards at the
Palais Brongniart, in the commercial center of Paris. Napoleon first ordered its establishment as the Temple of Money and enlisted the architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart, who designed the
Hôtel de Condé, to design the Bourse. The architect Brongniart completed its design in 1825.
The architecture of the Bourse boasts sixty-four 10 metre-high columns, surrounding the building in classical Greek style, and its interior adorns golden Gothic-type arches.
Bourse de Paris is one of the most important markets in the world, with some of the most well-known companies listed, including ABN, EADS, AMRO, ING Group, Philips, HSBC, Arcelor Mittal and Unilever.
An exhibit of the architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart is at the Bourse, as well as the office of the head of the
Compagnie des Agents de Change, paintings viewed from the gallery, overlooking the floor where trading takes place. Seven Films, commentaries and exhibits are also provided, explaining the role of the Paris Bourse among other stock markets in today's economy and educating basic principles of regulated markets. Computerised trading in equities and floor trading on the Monep and Matif are common activities here, as well as Bourse structures and markets, and screen-based dissemination of market data. In 1986, the
Bourse de Paris implemented the Computer Assisted Trading System (CATS).
The Bourse offers documentation in foreign languages, teaching activities, a gift shop and book shop. More information about the Paris Stock Exchange may be found at www.euronext.com. Opening hours of the Bourse are Monday through Friday, from 1.15pm to 4pm. One-hour tours are available, beginning every fifteen minutes, and consist of headsets with English language commentary. The Bourse is easily accessible by taking Metro line 4, 8 or 9.
