L'Argonaute (Submarine)
Set in the Parc de la Villette, the Argonaute, a real submarine, was disarmed in 1982. Visitors can embark on exploration, with self-guiding headphones and listening to a commentary describing the interior, into the insides of the huge submarine and can walk through the entire lenght of the sub, from the crew station to the torpedo launching housing.
The submarine's interior includes exhibits representing the history and techniques of submarines. It is advisable to book group visits in the morning. The submarine collections encompass history, industry, sciences and technology. L'Argonaute is a diesel-electric submarine which formed part of the front-line of the French navy during the late 1950s. The submarine is now placed on land in the large Parc de la Vilette close to the Cite des Sciences. The site organises visits in foreign languages, and has facilities for the handicapped, as well as its own book shop, a gift shop, and a parking.
