Prieros in Berlin

This tiny village looks like an enchanted place. Adorned by the Teupitz-Köriser chain of lakes, and set on the site where the Berlin und Storkow water areas meet, this miniature heritage site has been long discovered by the lovers of water sports, hikers and devoted bikers. The well-tended trails reveal stunning areas, and the smallish district offers a tremendous diversity of opportunities for those seeking active pursuits. The heritage site, apart from traditional houses with well-tended gardens and scenic areas, has a well-maintained Heimatmuseum, a museum dedicated to regional history, featuring various important artefacts tracing the development of the village through the centuries and the relation to its natural surroundings.

The highlight here is the half-timbered house from 1750, clad with reed sticks. Inside, one can admire various objects revealing the country life in the area and the agricultural work, following a 300 year old tradition. The substantial collection gives information on the history of the spot, as well as many other facts related to rural life.

In Prieros one can also find an information centre providing information on natural history, ecology and environmentally conscious behaviour. The site is equipped with a garden, where one can learn the craft of biological horticulture, spices and herbs garden, a Chinese garden, as well as a natural history garden equipped with the typical botanical species for the Dahme Heideseen area.

The Botanical Garden of Prieros, a separate entity, offers some 230 different coniferous shrubs and trees. The diverse collection is complemented by an enchanting heather garden, as well as large plots planted with tiny evergreen trees, a wetland biotope, and an alpine garden. The entire property, apart from a biological diversity, offers interesting examples of landscape gardening.
