Casa di Dante
This is the 13th-century location of the home of Alighieri, although Dante himself never lived in this house. It was in the early 20th Century that the Municipality of Florence installed a musem on the property to celebrate the poet.
The museum constitutes three floors tracing his life through a line of significant events. Upon entering, one is introduced to memorabilia, pictoral material and text panels providing an overview of 13th-century Florence, after which the halls trace Dante's baptising, his military involvement with a scale model of the Battle of Campaldino, documents related to his exile in 1301 and his various travels that he undertook until his death in Ravenna in 1321. The last floor of the building displays the reception of Dante's legacy over the centuries, including paintings and prints inspired by his work.
