Diocletian Bath and Octagonal Hall
The Diocletian Bath and Octagonal Hall is located near the Piazza dei Cinquecento as part of the 3rd-century Baths of Diocletian. This relic is set in the immediate vicinity of an ancient convent, which was presumably designed by
Michelangelo.
The Diocletian Baths, once the world's largest thermal baths, host an impressive collection of funerary art. The displays feature sarcophagi and evocative decorations, with a temporary exhibition on a rotating basis. The Octagonal Hall, another part of the complex, takes up the southwestern part of the Diocletian baths. The structure houses the Lyceum Apollo, a well-crafted copy of a 2nd-century piece inspired by Prassitele. Another notable is the statue of Aphrodite of Cyrene, also a 2nd-century copy of an ancient Greek sculpture.
