Archaeological Museum
The Venice Archaeological Museum is one of the oldest museums in
Venice. It's located in the heart of the city, near the Marciana Library. It offers rich collections connected with the Greek, Egyptian, Roman and Assiryan-Babylonian civilizations. The museum is open to visitors daily.
The Archaeological Museum was built in 1523 by virtue of the will of Domenico Grimani. Being one of the oldest museums in the city, it has amazing collections of archaeological findings that have been gathered for centuries. Many of them are here due to colonial trading of ancient objects in the past, which were afterwards donated to the museum by aristocratic families. Among the most exhaustive and impressive objects are the coins and statues from the 4th and 5th Centuries BC, busts from the period of the Roman Empire, and Latin epigraphs. There are also impressive displays of findings from the Egyptian and Assiryan-Babilonian civilizations.
