Amsterdam School of the Arts, Theatre Faculty, Theatre School Library in Amsterdam

The Amsterdam School of the Arts (Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten) is a government-funded Institute of Higher Professional Education. It was founded in 1987 after the merger of the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture, the Academy of Fine Arts, the Netherlands Film and Television Academy and the Reinwardt Academy. In 1988, also the Theatre School and the Hilversum Conservatory joined the Amsterdam School of teh Arts. In 1994, the merger with the Sweelinck Conservatory resulted in the establishment of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. The postgraduate DasArts Institute was set up the same year, followed by the BINGER Institute in 1995.

The Amsterdam School of the Arts is an institute of higher education offering students the artistic, intellectual, educational and material infrastructure for the best training. Its faculties provide high-quality specialised courses. The AHK covers the fields of music and dance, fine arts, theatre and film, architecture, transmission and conservation of the cultural heritage.

The AHK offers training for practitioners and intermediaries in preliminary, bachelor's, advanced, master's and doctoral courses. The Amsterdam School of the Arts faculties feature programmes which guarantee the security and specificity of the different disciplines. The faculties are profiled in terms of their powerful position and their specific aspect, respecting the policy of the AHK. Exchange and cooperation between the faculties aspire to joint activities and shared interest. As culturally diverse as the city of Amsterdam, the Amsterdam School of the Arts boasts 2,700 students from over 80 countries. There are 500 students from the EU and around 220 students from outside the EU. The AHK features the following faculties: Academy of Fine Arts, Amsterdam Academy of Architecture, Amsterdam School of Music, Reinwardt Academy, Netherlands Film and Television Academy and Theatre School.
