Parc de la Creueta del Coll
Urban development in practice – that’s what the Parc Creueta del Coll represents. It is situated in the districts Gracia and Horta and stands in place of an old abandoned granite quarry called Pedrera del Coll. The park was inaugurated in 1987 at the time of the Olympics and the Non Urbanisme movement by the project of the designers Martorell, Bohigas and Mackay and covers about 1.7 hectares.
What is most distinctive of the Park de la Creueta del Coll is the large lake that is being transformed into a public swimming pool during the summer and it’s worth noting that there is special attention being paid to the disabled. Once a marginal area, nowadays the park is a central meeting point. To make it more interesting, in the middle of the lake there is a small palm-covered island. Another interesting feature of the park is the sculpture 'Elogio del Agua' (Praise of Water) by the Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida. This structure is an enormous 50-ton concrete claw, hung over the upper part of the pool from the surrounding old rocky walls of the quarry maintained by four steel ropes.

Another sculpture called 'Escultura' by Ellsworth Kelly welcomes the visitor at the very entrance of the Parc de la Creueta del Coll. For the ones that would just enjoy a proper walk there are benches to rest, and also one can walk up to the wooded area of the park above the quarry walls where it borders the Coll hills. Another attractive characteristic of this park is the large playing area for children with tennis tables and a basketball hoop. Apart from all this, one can even decide to stay for lunch at the picnic area or order a drink at the bar.
