Angel of Christian Charity
The Angel of Christian Charity is an aluminium statue of an archer, situated at the heart of London’s bustling Piccadilly Circus. Londoners affectionately refer to the figure crafted by Sir Alfred Gilbert as Eros.
Although nowadays the statue is among the most recognisable monuments of the British capital, upon its inauguration it caused general aggravation, forcing its creator to abandon the city. Today, it looks down upon the crowded junction of five major streets, swarming with businessmen, shoppers, and tourists. At night, illuminated by thousands of colourful lights of adjacent buildings, the little statue of an angel forms a truly magical gateway to the nocturnal jungle of West End.
